We had Fall Break a couple weeks ago and decided to go somewhere relatively close bc of the Wildcard a.k.a. Lauren and her dislike for traveling far distances. We chose St. Simon's and had a really nice family trip. Steve and I visited St. Simon's four years ago when my friend Kristi got married on the island. Love the huge oaks and peaceful setting. Not sure how we avoided the rain but we did - would have been in big trouble if it had rained as there's not a whole lot to do on the island. Monday we arrived around 3:00 and spend most of the time on the sandbar and exploring the island.
Every afternoon around 5:00 a huge sandbar would appear right outside our resort We loved going out to look for shells and Lauren liked scaring the seagulls:-)
Tuesday we visited Ft Frederica - Our plan was to spend at least an hour here but there were so many mosquitoes we quickly toured and then left.
Wesley Gardens
King and Prince resort view from the sandbar
We then made a spontaneous trip to Jekyll Island with no swimsuits, flip flops or towels since we were more than halfway there anyway. Jekyll is a totally secluded island that really isn't that developed.
Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island
This one LOVES the beach
Brandon and his infamous pose
Jekyll Island Beach Club - we ate lunch here by the pool - really neat old hotel
Sea Turtle rescue center - we were cracking up at the teeny tiny sea turtles in a tank who were swimming at turbo speed - so cute
Wednesday we stayed at the beach and pool pretty much the entire day then walked around downtown and played putt putt that evening after it had cooled off a little
Lauren HAD to get a picture of this crow
Thursday we rented bikes and rode all over the downtown area - the highlight of the trip was when we came upon this fat cat who was laying in the middle of our bike path and would not move. We were cracking up. It finally got up and slowly walked off when Steve put his tire right up to it. Cracked Brandon up. We rode to Dairy Queen and sat and ate lunch in the AC and of course had ice cream. Their new favorite treats are Blizzards:-) Then we went back to the beach and pool and it started sprinkling around 5:00 so we left and went to dinner at The Half Shell. It was POURING but at least it was our last night and we avoided the rain for pretty much the entire time!
Kids and their "fort"on our last night
